Palpable love from the @anglersanfrancisco team sparked by @ulteriorepicure was so lovely. Surprise reunions with my @thebatterysf crew were divine. Time with @amydevee was BEST. And, the bathroom was...kind of everything.
Refilling my nearly empty taco tank 🤗 🌮
New baby on the way. It’s such a privilege to dream big with the Soigné team.
Reading about kindness, writing about kindness, and experiencing profound kindness at @vinpapillon. Thank you Florence for the generous hospitality (the bread station is the best seat in the house...my humble opinion) and to @richardcossins for the astute recommendation.
If I could give love a name, it would be Madeleine.
Every version of Cafe Boulud feels like home, mostly because @gavinkaysen and I met and started working together at @cafebouludny 11 (!!) years ago. Dinner at @cafebouludto was magical for so many reasons...experiencing it for the first time with @jamieannmalone @annbkool and @dianemyang in the kitchen was a dream.
(2/2) • A physical demonstration of a profit-driven vision of inclusive economic development that can serve as a model for every other city. As commercial and residential costs increase dramatically, it has become impossible to envision a city that works for everyone. The Municipal Marketplace will move towards changing this.
With every passing day, I learn more about how important and impactful gratitude and kindness are. Together, they've become my religion of sorts and so my hope, dear reader, is that on this day, you'll consider celebrating me by joining me in demonstrating that the more of these things you give away, the more they come back to you. My hope is that you'll close your eyes for a moment and think about what we'd do together today if we had the opportunity to see each other and then instead of buying me a glass of Champagne (or a bottle, let's be real), you'll send me whatever happy energy you're feeling and then click the link in my profile and put those dollars in the hands of an organization that is feeding our communities with man'oushe, mole, kuy teav, huaraches, and misos, alongside hope, inspiration, and love. Please leave my name in the comments section of your donation so I know which one of us should be picking up the next Champagne bill 😉. With gratitude and love,
(1/2) Though I've never embraced celebrating my own birthday in an especially big way, I do make a habit of taking at least a sliver of time to reflect on the past 365 days, and those reflections consistently reveal that, like all humans, my years are a collection of peaks, valleys, and agonizing purgatories. The happenings in our cities, our industry, our country, and our world at large have made this past one feel especially polarizing. While the lows have been disillusioning and disorienting, I can't help but notice that those same dark spaces have fueled some very high highs, mostly by way of uniting people around common purpose, inspiring folks to exercise the inexhaustible power of kindness, and lifting our eyes to all that we have to be grateful for.
The project that has served as my antidote, my source of excitement and hope in the toughest moments since I wrote a version of this message on the same day last year, is La Cocina's forthcoming Municipal Marketplace. Nestled in the heart of the Tenderloin, a neighborhood that on it's face looks like the poster child of despair, the Marketplace will be a tangible manifestation of what the future could look like: • The first all-women driven food hall in the country at a moment when it is even more clear that diversity of ownership and representation are essential to systems change in the food industry. • A community-focused space that prioritizes the needs of the families, refugees and low-income residents that make the Tenderloin their home. The Marketplace will accept EBT food stamps; there is only one other restaurant in the Tenderloin that does so and it's Burger King. • A place for residents and visitors alike to reclaim their sanity, dignity, and desire to connect with other people in the most immediate and satisfying of ways -- through food that is accessible, nourishing, thoughtful, and delicious.
Salty, oily fried sardines @hogislandoysterco, best enjoyed by the bay with my sweet friend @alex_loscher.
Chocolate soldiers preparing for birthday battle @noevalleybakery.
✨All of the lights✨
Sexy summer snacks @tartinemanufactory.
Light is beauty that only darkness can reveal.
@nite_nite_nite has created a space that feels like a sweet, spicy, fish saucey hug at @nyumbai. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed living in her beautifully chaotic world this week as she navigates @nytimes interviews in between packed services.
Go eat all of the things from @noodlegirlrestaurant @pinkyandreds @agirlnamedpinky and @olddamascusfare at @ucberkeleyofficial. @lacocinasf has taken residence at CAL’s student union for the entire school year and - pro tip - you don’t have to be a student to eat there 😘. Also makes me wonder what college would have been like if bagels hadn’t been the most compelling food option....🤔
Reaching for the ⭐️⭐️⭐️ with @besharamsf this week.
Wow. I am filled with gratitude, pride, and heart bursting excitement to see two of my beloved families on @foodandwine magazine’s list of the 40 most influential restaurants in the past 40 years. Thank you @gavinkaysen and @danielboulud, not only for bringing @spoonandstable and @restaurantdaniel to life and positively impacting our industry in doing so, but for providing a platform for so many to pursue their dreams.
So totally thrilled that the incredibly talented @a.garcia2017 will be leading the kitchen at @virginhotelssf. Get ready, San Francisco. #powercouple
