Belated, but still beautiful. @lacocinasf’s 7th annual gala broke our fundraising record, bringing us one baby step closer to solving problems of equity in business ownership for women, immigrants, and people of color. Plating all night with my favorite co-pilot @amydevee made it extra saucy. Literally.
Soigné Hospitality’s 2019 Development Day left me completely in awe. It was honest, vulnerable, and emotionally raw. It was all of those things because the 200+ team members in attendance, plus the 5 guest speakers leading us through the day were brave. They showed up. Allowing yourself to break open in a one on one interaction with another human is profound and really difficult. Allowing it in the presence of hundreds of people is pure power. Thank you to @gavinkaysen for investing in this, to @designbylibby for effortlessly bringing color to my dreams always, to @jeffmpls @janasjeanie @cnye for your eternal support and trust, to our speakers Anthony Rudolf, Patrick O’Brien, @ashley_christensen, Craig Shea and @chefaz for sharing your words, and to the teams of @spoonandstable @bellecourmn @demi.mpls and @kzprovisioning for being courageous participants. What a tremendous reminder that the things that separate us are fewer and less important than the things that make us the same. What’s more nourishing than that? Remarkable.

It was so special. All of it. So special to taste plants and animals exactly how they should taste when they’ve been given every opportunity to be exceptional; so special to be served those things by people who felt a sense of purpose in presenting them (I’ll never look at a squab the same way again). @richardcossins, I missed you, but felt you in every moment. Thank you for the most restorative end to the most challenging (and rewarding!) week in recent memory.
I sat in this same class at @cornelluniversity 13 years ago and never in a million years did I think I’d have the honor of returning a decade after graduation to be a guest lecturer at the front of it. It was such a privilege to share my stories of success and failure with students who are just learning what they might want to do with their careers during their freshman year, as well as students with piercing questions and bright ideas in the master’s program. I am leaving Ithaca with a renewed sense of gratitude for how special @cornell_sha is and a deep appreciation for the professors who dedicate themselves to guiding the next generation of hospitality leaders.
I had dinner at @jardinieresf for the last time this week. When I was a kid, completely convinced that I would either be a pastry chef or cease to exist, my mom would bring me to Jardinière for warm bread salad and a table full of desserts. I’m immensely lucky to have had that experience and it’s safe to say that it changed my life. A heartfelt letter written to my then untouchable idol, and now dear friend and forever mentor @tracidesjardins led to a job that sparked a career. I still have the gray and purple food runner jacket (even as an 18 year old fashion lover, it was the coolest shirt I’d ever worn). Jardinière is one of the restaurants that gave me a true sense of purpose in caring for others and for that, I will always be grateful. Through love, passion, knowledge and the purest of grit, Traci and her disciples (I’m looking at you @amydevee 👀) have inspired an entire generation of culinary and hospitality professionals to reach higher, do better, laugh harder, and be just a little kinder. From the bottom of my heart - thank you @tracidesjardins and everyone who has contributed to @jardinieresf over its storied tenure. ❤️
